Tonights Meeting: Monday 22nd July 2019

Tonight’s meeting will be a General Club meeting, this will give us an opportunity to discuss many new and upcoming events and make some plans for the direction of the Club in 2019-2020. 
 
Our normal meeting room is not available so we will conduct our meeting in the reserved seating area where we normally sit for dinner.

Rotarian Paul Hawker has lived in Bradbury, a suburb of the Campbelltown Local Government Area for over thirty years. He is a retired Army Officer having served in the Australian Army for 38 years, during which he saw active service during the Vietnam War with an Infantry Battalion Rotarian.
 
Rotarian Paul is married to Sigrid, a retired High School Teacher, and they have two adult sons. Rotarian Paul was an elected councillor and Mayor of Campbelltown City Council for 12 plus years and he served as an Executive Director of the Local Government Association of New South Wales for ten years. He has worked as an adviser to the Deputy Leader of the Liberal party in the NSW Legislative Council and as the Office Manager for the Federal Member for Macarthur.
 
Rotarian Paul is currently retired.

3) Michael Mazza, Rotary Club of Darling Harbour, informs Rotarians that Round 2 of the Australian Aid: Friendship Grants program is now open. Applications will close at 1pm (AEST) on Tuesday 10 September 2019. The Round 2 Friendship Grants documents, including the Round 2 Guidelines and application form, are now available on the Friendship Grants pages of the DFAT website at www.dfat.gov.au/friendshipgrants. (See attachment for more information.)

9)  The United Nations Association Australia will be holding a World Humanitarian Day to pay tribute to aid workers who risk their lives in Humanitarian Services around the world. This will be held at the Lendlease Building in Barangaroo on Monday 19th August 2019 from 8.30AM to 1.30PM. Dr Munjed Al Muderis will be one of the guest speakers. The cost to attend is $120. 10)  Donate Life Week will be held from 28th July to 4th August. It would be wonderful if more Australians registered to become organ donors because at the moment there are more than 1400 people in Australia on waiting lists for a transplant. Please read the attached information to see how your Rotary Club can get involved. There is a supporter kit as well as a media release for you to send to your local newspaper, radio or television station.  (Please see 3 attachments for more information).
 
11) Sydney City Rotary Club is offering a unique opportunity next Tuesday 23rd  July to tour and lunch at the Sydney Startup Hub at 11-31 York Street, Sydney. 13)  Rotary Emergency Services Community Awards (RESCA) Presentation Dinner will be held on Friday 2nd August at 6.30pm for 7.00pm at The Grand Ballroom, Bankstown Sports, 8 Greenfield Pde, Bankstown. 14)  The movie chosen for this year’s Polio Movie Night is “Ride Like a Girl”. This is the story of Michelle Payne, the first woman to win a Melbourne Cup. The movie is directed by Rachel Griffiths and stars Sam Neill and Teresa Palmer. It is due for general release from 26th September but will be available as a pre-release fundraiser for Polio for three weeks beforehand.
