Thank you to all the members that have supported me and sponsored me in the Can Too Foundations swimming challenge.

The newly formed Campbelltown swimming Pod has raised over $30,000 with all the money raised going directly to funding cancer research in Australia. As a whole the Can Too swim program has raised over $350,000 during 12 week program.
Last week my 12 week training program to learn how to complete in long-distance ocean swims came to an end.

Over the past two weeks I have competed in three ocean races:
-    Palm beach to Whale beach 2.8km
-    Shark Island Swim two in one day 9.30am the 1km swim then at 10.30am the 2.3km swim around shark island.
-    Unfortunately, the 2km Bondi swim was cancelled today (Sunday 9th February) due to extreme weather conditions.
There are two more races that I plan on entering to finish of the season
-    Bondi Bluewater Challenge ocean swim on Sunday 23rd of February (2.1km)
-    Splash Wollongong on Sunday 8th March (2km)

3) A reminder to please save the date for Saturday 29th February when some of the District Governors around Australia will hold a Nutbush Dance at 11AM AEST and invite Rotarians, friends and community members to participate. In Sydney it will be a joint District 9675 and 9685 event and will be held at Cathy Freeman Park at Olympic Park, Homebush. We are extremely fortunate that Tickets.com have offered to waive their fee and will organise the booking site for all venues. It will cost you $5 to register and the money raised will be supporting bushfire relief. DG Dianne will get the registration information to you as soon as possible.

4) At our District Conference which will be held from 20th to 22nd March 2020, there will be a session where we will remember those members who have died since the last conference in March 2019. Please send a good quality photo of these members, with their name, club name and if they have an OAM to PDG Phil Lacey pnlacey2@bigpond.com before 6th March. This will give Phil enough time to put together the Reflections session which will be held on the Sunday morning of the conference. DG Dianne encourages you to send this information, as it is a lovely gesture to acknowledge our departed Rotarians and to show our respect.

5) A Membership Seminar will be held on Saturday 15th February at Bankstown Sports Club from 8.30am to 12.30pm. Morning tea will be provided. Our District Membership Chair Rae-Anne Medforth has organised an exciting and engaging program. PDG Brian Coffey will speak about "Strength through Service". Bharathi Rengarajan will present on Diversity, and our District Public Image Chair Tony Benner will speak about our Public Image. The seminar will be interactive which will enable members to share their experiences while developing strategies that might be used in their Clubs. It will also provide new members with the opportunity to see the broader picture of Rotary and its impact on the community and individuals. The booking link is <https://www.trybooking.com/BHVVO.

6) A reminder to Presidents and AGs to register for the Presidents Meeting at Bankstown Sports Club on Friday night 21st February, 6.30 for a 7pm start. Presidents will be given the opportunity in the last part of the evening to have a minute to speak about an upcoming project and/or what the club is doing for bushfire relief. To request a minute please contact District Secretary Janice at janicehall@fastmail.com.au The booking link is <https://www.trybooking.com/BHSUP

7)  Woy Woy Rotary Club are inviting you to an afternoon of opera on Saturday 28th March from 3pm to 5.30pm. Opera in the Arboretum will feature Julie-Lea Goodwin who is the granddaughter of Hurstville Past President Ken Ford. We were all enthralled when Julie sang for us at Hurstville Rotary Club's 80th anniversary in September (please see DG Dianne's October DG Bulletin). Tickets are $70pp (or $67pp for Seniors). Please book tickets at www.trybooking.com/567088  See attachment for more information.

8) On the 31st January we received the sad news that two polio workers were killed in Pakistan close to the Afghanistan border. RI Past Vice President Mike McGovern (Chair, International PolioPlus Committee) will lead a delegation of senior Rotary leaders to meet with Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and the chief of the Pakistani army in Islamabad. They will emphasise the need for full cooperation and support to ensure that the community based vaccinators are safe, and also underline the importance of ongoing vaccinations in the fight to end Polio. The new oral polio vaccine which has been under development for ten years, is ready to go. They are awaiting final approval but manufacturing is already underway with 100 million doses expected to be ready on 1st July and a further 100 million by the end of the year. The indications from testing the vaccine is that it will eliminate the incidences of vaccine derived cases that have become more prevalent in the last 12 months. Bill Gates has just announced that the Gates Foundation will continue matching donations to Rotary's PolioPlus program 2-1, up to US$50 million for the next three years.

9)  A request has been received from David Russell who coordinates the placement in NSW of recently graduated US teachers. There is a 22 year old male who will attend Newtown School of Performing Arts for 8 weeks commencing 27 April. The school usually arranges home hosting, but that is not possible this time. Would this interest one of our Rotary Clubs? The teacher expects to pay $200/week for board. It could be seen as a Youth/International project. Please contact David joanda1077@gmail.com

10)  Another request has been received from Martin Horsted a member of Hemel Hempstead Rotary Club, District 1260 U.K. Martin is seeking a New Generations Service Exchange (NGSE) for 5-8 weeks sometime during the period April-June this year for his daughter, Emma who is almost 19 years old and is currently undertaking a Gap-Year before taking up a place to study Psychology at Southampton University in October. Due to the current challenges in Australia, Emma has a desire to see if she can help in some way, whether it be with animals, the environment or people. Martin was a team member in a Group Study Exchange (GSE) to District (9750 as it was then) in 1988. If you would like more information please contact DG Dianne at districtgovernor@rotarydistrict9675.org
